How to setup 3 point lighting against the white background

Shooting catalog with white background can be a pain in a** for some of us. (pardon me for my expression :D). We have to maintain the white background and at the same time the definition of the product. of course there are many ways to do it , but diagram below shows you the way I always setup my 3 point lighting technique when it comes to catalog session...:D

The 2 umbrellas will keep the white background for you and at the same time will give you the fill/rim light for your model/subject. Make sure that your  key/main light above and leaning down to your model. This will keep the shadow below the model and keep your white background clean. Please make sure that your model always facing to the key light.

You can also add 4th lighting for hair light...

My second setup I used octagonal soft box ( it is not a MUST of course) as Key/main light above and leaning down to your model. If you do not have octagonal soft box you can use something else too, such as soft box or silver bounce umbrella. Just remember how you have to place it!! "Above the model and leaning down toward the model, to make sure that her shadow goes down (beneath your model).

Hope this article will help you on your catalog shot..happy shooting folks

cheers :D
